Storyline

Funny and provocative, Boy Meets Girl vividly captures the giddy excitement, sexual heat, and inherent heartache of "non-traditional" love in a small town. Ricky (Michelle Hendley) is a 21-year-old trans girl living in Kentucky. Her only real friend, straight-laced Robby, has been her trusty, totally platonic, confidant for over 15 years. Her day job slinging lattes is merely a stepping-stone toward her goal of being a famous New York designer. She's confident, cool, and completely ready for something new-and then her world is transformed when an enchanting debutante saunters into her life. Triggering fresh feelings and experiences, this unlikely connection conjures up intense questions about identity while uncovering ghosts from Ricky's past. Great film of a trans relationship in today's America
18 October 2014 | by Julie Kaye Millwood (Louisville) – See all my reviews
Saw this at the Louisville LGBT Film Festival. Being a trans woman myself probably makes my review slightly biased, but oh well. The fact that it is based in my home state of Kentucky doesn't really influence my opinion either. This film had it all as far as the triumphs and pit falls of a young trans relationship in today's times. The hetero / gay / trans relationship scene can be a jumbled mess....as this film shows. This was the lead character's first performance on screen and she did an amazing job!!! The male lead is a seasoned actor and it showed. They had great chemistry together. That also made the film flow really well and seem very believable. I give it a 9 for content and storyline, but a 7 for editing quality and overall filming quality. That really isn't a slam, just evidence of the lower budget, indie film that it is. I hope to see more from this director and from the two lead performers!

I think this film has the ability to capture the hearts of both the easy target of the LGBT community but also the more mainstream hetero community. Go see it if you can! You won't be sorry and will probably cry!
